Being a first year design student I really need to consider buying the CS2 and understand I can buy a student license version at the college bookstore.

My question is: From what I understand, as soon as I receive my diploma and want to start making money with the CS2 programs, I won’t be able to legally use the software I bought as a student, is this correct?

If this is the case, will I have to buy a complete retail version or will an upgrade of the Creative Suite 2 make it legal?

Thanks…

You understand wrong. The only restriction on the Adobe licenses is that you must be a student to buy them. There are no restrictions on use, and the program is full and complete (although occasionally freebies on the full program are omitted on the ed version).

You will be able to upgrade to the next version for the normal upgrade price. (There are no special upgrades if you are still a student when the next version hits, probably in fall 2006).

Also, you do not need to buy from the campus store. You can deal with an educational online dealer if your college price is too high. I use <http://www.creationengine.com> to make sure my school’s prices are fair.

While Don is correct, do not take his word for it. We are all just users that have no impact on your licensing of software. See here <http://www.adobe.com/support/salesdocs/1002268.html> for the definitive info.

Also, if you work for an employer with Adobe software, you may find this <http://www.adobe.com/support/salesdocs/1001205.html> interesting.

You are in a particularly good position as a student or as an employee.

Thanks for the info Jim.

I have Acrobat Pro 6.0 installed on my PC at work, and I am the sole user of that PC. This means I can take the CD home and install it on my home PC, as I am the only one who uses the PC there as well, correct?

According to Adobe, yes you can, but I would double-check with your employer to make sure it is permissible with your employer.

Some employers use a site license where this policy may not apply. Check the EULA to be certain.
