After creating a Flash Web Photo Gallery file, The resulting SWF will not always run stand-alone. Therefore, if I’m trying to create a page in dreamweaver or go live containing the SWF, having imported the SWF, both in preview mode, or after creating the final page, all images are blank. Dragging the same SWF file into a browser works, as does viewing the file in a stand-alone Flash viewer. SWF’s created in other apps work fine.
I tried downloading 5.5.1 of the plug-in, but that seems simply to install an older(non-flash capable) version of the file.
Is it the case that infact the SWF cannot be run stand-alone, and needs it’s Java/HTML "Index" page to run? or is there another explanation? Is there a fix?

Thanks in advance

Chris

I, too, am having problems with the Flash Gallery. Comes up blank, then works after a browser refresh, on Mac OS 10.3.9. Also sometimes thumbs freeze–thumbs lose rollover.
Does not work at all on my PC running Windows XP.

How exactly are you creating "stand alone"?

SWF is not an img, and should not be created from that tag. It is an object. When I want to place one on a page, I copy from the < object> to the < /object> tags from the html page that is created by the program, and this makes everything work. I don’t know if this is your problem (I only make my swfs with Flash) but it might help.

Hi Don,
The Web Photo gallery action produces lots of output including an HTML page with the flash file embedded(as well as embedded references to some ?Java?), and a standalone .SWF. So, the "Standalone" refers to the SWF created by wpg.
The HTML page works properly.
So, the problem occurs when attempting to take the standalone SWF, and embed it in a page that I have created in Dreamweaver/GoLive. Normally this is a really simple process that works well, but not with file created by wpg.
The SWF won’t even preview properly in these HTML editors. The .SWF also won’t work if you simply drag it into a browser(ie6 or firefox)

Any ideas?

Hi Rob,

That works! Thankyou for a good suggestion!

Would be nice if Adobe could give us a hint as to why the standalone .SWF’s don’t work though/give us a fix/tell us that the SWF.s can’t be used standalone so we don’t all waste hours trying to carry out a very standard operation…..

Cheers

Are you keeping the photos.xml (generated by WPG) and galleryconfig.xml (a static settings file) alongside the SWF? The images aren’t embedded in the SWF; rather, they go into the images folder (as they would for any Web gallery), and the photos.xml file tells the SWF the image names, dimensions, metadata, etc.

J.

PS: As it happens, we’ll be posting the FLA source files for these galleries, along with a new Gallery 3, to Adobe.com in the next day or two.
