Both programs have worked well for a year. Now, but not every time, both programs freeze when I try to create a new layer. The new layer is shown in the ‘layers’ palette, the eyedropper icon shows in the active image window but no histogram or curves window is displayed. All menus greyed out, even the quit button on top RHS is greyed out. It takes Task Manager to free up the system.

Any advice on debugging this problem gratefully received. Using XP O/S with one gig of ram and a dedicated PS scratch disk.

see the faq about dialog boxes off screen. if that doesn’t help, read the one about resetting your prefrences.

Thanks. Will try this out tonight. It seems excellent advice and I’m sure will help. It never occurred to me that the dialog box might be sitting offscreen somewhere. Sure hope that is the problem. Thanks again.
