This is Photoshop CS.

I get the message "Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document".

I updated the Camera Raw.8bi plufin to the latest (2.4). The image displays in the Browse window OK, and all the information is present, but I get the above message when I try to open it and the open fails.

Any ideas?
TIA
Bob

I had raw problems too. I solved it by deleting the nikon plug in and keeping the photoshop one. I had the open problem too, but seemed to solve with reboot.

Is the D70 supported in ACR 2.4? If not, you will either need to upgrade to CS2 or use the digital negative converter to convert the .nef files to .dng files that can be opened in ARC 2.4.

I bought cs1 upgrade about 60 days before the release of cs2. Can I get a free upgrade or do I have to pay full price?

The D70 should be supported.

Did you modify the file in Nikon software before trying to open it?

Bob,

I’ve seen no problems with NEF files from my D70 when importing them via ACR 2.4. I can’t say I’ve ever seen the specific problem you cite either. Hope you figure it out.

How do you try to open the file? not from the card in the camera I presume?

Try to transfer the file to the HDD first. Will it open then?

Is there also a Nikon plugin on the pc?

Just to answer Rob’s questions in the event it sheds light on anything, opening the NEF from either the CF card or the HDD works for me although the latter is preferred. And, if you have Nikon Capture (or perhaps Picture Project) installed, any update to that usually results in an update of the associated plug-in in Photoshop as well, which then conflicts with using ACR and requires renaming the Nikon file with a tilde in front to hide it from being loaded (rather than deleting or moving the file outright).

Daryl
