I heard about this site with "hijiacked forums" on the PS Elements forum and didn’t believe it at first. Don’t they neeed permission to do this legally? Most Usenet forums for designers are there along with many "questionable" ones. What can we do to get this site shut down or to remove all the Adobe forums?

There are many independant forums where people talk about all kinds of things. I looked at the link you provided, and I was not impressed with the quality of the posts.

Just ignore it. There are all kinds of forums about all kinds of things, anyone can post pretty much whatever they want on the Internet. Just because 99% of it is baloney doesn’t stop anyone!

I don’t think you understand, Dana, THIS forum is on that site, not some bogus forum. Do a search with your name and you’ll see what I mean. Also, see the link to the Photoshop Windows on said site. Along with most of the other Adobe forums, Corel, and more.

i’ve seen a couple. i’d guess that as these forums are also newsfeeds, yes, it’s perfectly legal to link and probably even embed them. think of it as a form of flattery. 🙂

Sorry, dave, but I don’t think it’s flattering for Adobe to be on the same site as a usenet groups for designers for adult websites.

I’m not very savvy on newsgroups, but it seems to me that there should be two choices, one I can come to Adobe’s website to visit the forums or two, or download the newsgroup posts as email.

Patti,

There are a few of these where adobes forums are mirrored / copied. I find them when I google myself.

Patti,

The fact that these forums are mirrored to NNTP means that anyone can use the content of them. There is nothing illegal in doing so, in fact it is part of the NNTP specs. that content can be re-used.

Does it mean we are all famous now?

Maybe even infamous?

Who cares? It’s totally insignificant! Leave the morons alone, they are just parasites and not bothering anybody (well, almost).

If Adobe wants to do something about the "Hijacked forums", let them.

Now, let’s think about something really important…maybe the waste of lives in Iraq?

Oh, but probably not, that would require some real courage and backbone. LOL

I guess I never really understood how these forums work. I’m learning. When I heard about this it kind of made me angry. It seems like an Adobe forum should belong to Adobe not the whole world. If you look at some of the posts (even your own) on this hijacked forum site your posts contain html "sponsored" links for words in your post that you did not link…like Adobe, domain, ISP. They call it IntelliTXT:

What is IntelliTXT? It is a third-party technology created and distributed through Vibrant Media Incorporated, developed to locate keywords & phrases found within text and link them to relevant commercial information. IntelliTXT is identified with a double-underline and all corresponding text ads are clearly marked with “Advertisement” or “Sponsored Link”.

Do you want your post to link to sites that may sell pirated software? Surely this is not a good thing?

There’s not a whole lot anyone here can do about it.

The people in charge of Adobe Forums know about it; If they want to put a stop to it, they can.

It’s not worth worrying about, especially when there are toys to buy and chocolates to eat.
