1) How can I merge linked layers?
Apparently with CS2 this is not more possible!!!
(It used to be Ctrl+E)

2) How can I rotate a layer through key commands
No this too now is not possible anymore
(it used to be Alt & E + A + 1 (9, H, V)

3) My layers are linked; with previous versions I could edit the selected layer only by using the Selection Marque.
Now no this is not possible.
Now the selection Marque (and eventually all the transformations) will apply to all the Linked Layers.

Very good we are going back….

Ctrl+E still works for me. Although I suspect something has changed. Certain kinds of layers (text?) won’t Merge Down. But Ctrl Click on two layers and Ctrl+E becomes Merge Layers – and they don’t even have to be adjascent!

So it looks as though more funxctionality has been added. Will investigate in due course.

As for rotating using the keyboard. Alt+I then E followed by 1 9 0 or A still does as it always has.

Just a case of getting to gfrips with the added features I guess.

Best of luck with it.

Chris.

Chris says:
"Ctrl+E still works for me "
and then one line below:
"Ctrl+E becomes Merge Layers."

But as I said:
Ctrl+E used to merge "Linked Layers" and now merging "Linked Layers" is not more possible: this is a fact!

Chris this kind of approximation and blindness is only discouraging

Also:
"Alt+I then E followed by 1 9 0" is for rotating Canvas (and it s still working) but
Alt + E + A + 1 (9, H, V) it was for rotating Layers (and it not working anymore!)

Yes i must agree with shirley. It seems that adobe has dropped out the old functions alt+letters to achieve the menu commands.
in the filter menu i can`t get the sub menus anymore!
4example: unsharp mask alt+t > s > u
fil_t_er > _s_harpen > _u_nsharp mask.

or the gaussian blur

alt+t>b>g

after to enter the filter menu with alt+t than i press "b" the toolbar switchs to brush (b) and the menu is disappearing.
Shame. I won’t use CS2 if they don’t change this 🙁

Hey – don’t shoot the messenger! As another user, I had a quick look to see what was happening, and perhaps help you. Then I said I’d investigate further. Then came the Bank Holiday!!

Ctrl+E does still work for me. I use it daily to "Merge Down" the selected layer into the one below.

Ctrl+E used to merge "Linked Layers" and now merging "Linked Layers" is not more possible: this is a fact!

"Merge Linked" is not something I previously needed. But I’ve checked and yes that’s still there too – albeit under another name.

What has changed in CS2 is the way that you "link" the layers. Now this is achieved by Ctrl Clicking the layers you wish to link. When more than one layer is selected the Ctrl+E command becomes "Merge Layers".

Quite a bit has changed in the layers department. I see there is a "Group layers" command. This is not something I’ve ever used in my own work, so I will leave it to someone more knowledgeable in this department to step in with advice.

"Alt + E + A + 1 (9, H, V)" it was for rotating Layers (and is not working anymore!)

True. This is one of those very handy (undocumented) keyboard shortcuts which has changed in CS2. You just have to adapt slightly.

In this particular sequence you just have to hit Enter or the right arrow after the "A". eg: "Alt + E + A + ENTER + 1 (9, H, V)"

It seems that adobe has dropped out the old functions alt+letters to achieve the menu commands

Best way is to download Trefor Morris’s Keyboard shortcuts (or create your own) On my keyboard Ctrl+Alt+Sift+U brings up Unsharp Mask and Ctrl+Alt+Sift+G. You can get these shortcuts from: < http://user.fundy.net/morris/redirect.html?photoshop01.shtml>

There is a whole raft of shortcuts in this set. I promise you, once you start using them you’ll wonder how ever you managed without them. I for one am eternally grateful to Trefor for making his hard work freely available to users of this forum.

Still there. Post #1

Hope some of this will be useful to you.
