How to "write enable all RGB Channels"?

I am trying to edit selected parts of images using AutoEye 2.0 and Icorrect Pro 4.0 within Photoshop 7.01. However, whilst there is no problem editing the whole image with either application, when I select part of an image I keep getting an error message saying "you must write enable all RGB channels". I’m fairly new to photoshop and nowhere in the books or manual can I find any reference to how this can be done. These are JPEG images straight from a digital camera (Sony 717).

Can anyone please help! It’s driving me nuts, because I feel it must be very simple and I am very stupid!

Or perhaps, somehow, it is coming in as a layer above an empty background?? This would be like copying a selection, opening a new file, and pasting into it.

Come to think of it, THAT may be your work around. Work on the selection as a seperate new file and copy it back as a layer on top of the original. Just use a wierd color fill on the empty part that would easily be removeable with SMART ERASE.

Thanks to all for the input. In fact the answer in part was that I hadn’t realised that in the channels palette the channel isn’t fully "active" when only visual; the channel bar needs clicking on then it turns blue indicating the channel is active. This has cleared the problem with Icorrect.

The problem with Autoeye, however, remains. The manual says selections are imported as a mask from photoshop. I have tried using layers and alpha channels, but it’s only worked twice – and then the selection has been inverted for some reason; otherwise the corrections are still made globally. I guess I’m not doing it right yet. I shall try agian as you outline above and see if I can get any further. I have emailed AutoFx and am still waiting to hear back.
