It seems that adobe has dropped out the old functions (alt+letters) to achieve the menu commands. in the filter menu i can`t get the sub menus any more!

4example:

UNSHARP MASK in old versions — alt+t > s > u
(fil[t]er > [s]harpen > [u]nsharp mask.)

or the GAUSSIAN BLUR in old versions — alt+t>b>g

after I enter the filter menu with [alt+t] than I press "b" the tool bar switches to BRUSH TOOL[B] and the menu is disappearing. I use all commands from keyboard, I won’t use CS2 if they don’t change this, shame, because it`s MUCH faster than CS1.

Zsolt,

You’re correct in what you observe, but with an exception that some commands do remain available as Alt key sequences. Namely, they are those commands which are shown with an underscored character in their name in the menu structure. With earlier versions of Photoshop, all commands could be accessed either via these "hot letters" or for those commands without such an underscored letter, by selecting the first letter of the command. Where multiple commands in a menu started with the same letter, you simply depressed the letter again to move to the next item. For Photoshop to have such a keyboard-centric interface, such a departure for Adobe in how the menu commands are accessed seems a rather radical change in my opinion.

Chris this kind of approximation and blindness is only discouraging

Hey – don’t shoot the messenger! As another user, I had a quick look to see what was happening, and perhaps help you. Then I said I’d investigate further. Then came the Bank Holiday!!

Ctrl+E does still work for me. I use it daily to "Merge Down" the selected layer into the one below.

Ctrl+E used to merge "Linked Layers" and now merging "Linked Layers" is not more possible: this is a fact!

"Merge Linked" is not something I previously needed. But I’ve checked and yes that’s still there too – albeit under another name.

What has changed in CS2 is the way that you "link" the layers. Now this is achieved by Ctrl Clicking the layers you wish to link. When more than one layer is selected the Ctrl+E command becomes "Merge Layers".

Quite a bit has changed in the layers department. I see there is a "Group layers" command. This is not something I’ve ever used in my own work, so I will leave it to someone more knowledgeable in this department to step in with advice.

"Alt + E + A + 1 (9, H, V)" it was for rotating Layers (and is not working anymore!)

True. This is one of those very handy (undocumented) keyboard shortcuts which has changed in CS2. You just have to adapt slightly.

In this particular sequence you just have to hit Enter or the right arrow after the "A". eg: "Alt + E + A + ENTER + 1 (9, H, V)"

It seems that adobe has dropped out the old functions alt+letters to achieve the menu commands

Best way is to download Trefor Morris’s Keyboard shortcuts (or create your own) On my keyboard Ctrl+Alt+Sift+U brings up Unsharp Mask and Ctrl+Alt+Sift+G. You can get these shortcuts from: < http://user.fundy.net/morris/redirect.html?photoshop01.shtml>

Chris? what happen to your comment? it was the first reply to my original message" how come is not in view anymore!?

Still there. Post #1

Hope some of this will be useful to you.

Chris.
