Paste Into Command Not Accessible in CS2

When working in layers in CS2 I can no longer use the "Paste Into" command used in previous versions of CS. In CS1 you could "ctrl" click on a layer to get "the Marching Ants" and then "shift, alt, V" to "paste into". In CS2 when you "ctrl" click on the layer, the layer deselects. I’ve tried various techniques to no avail, including actually rtying to find it in the manual and in "help". So, Help! Anyone else have this problem or found a solution to this?

Control/Command click on the layer thumbnail.

This has nothing to do with "Paste Into".
