I posted there, thanks. But it seemed appropriate to post here since AHC doesn’t work _at all_, not even from PS. It seems that the PS CS2 help database needs to be re-registered with AHC. Thus, it’s a PS question/issue too.
Search for the folder called AdobeHelpData on your hard drive. Verify that the folder Packages under it has a bunch of .zip files (one for each product language you have installed). If the .zip files don’t exist you’ll have to reinstall, you’ve hosed the entire app somehow.
If they do exist and you don’t see help content when running Help Center then your help database is probably gone or corrupted. Exit out of Help center, Delete the folders Cache and Database under AdobeHelpData and relaunch Help Center. You should see progress messages saying it’s processing each .zip file as it rebuilds your help database. Then you should see content again after the UI comes up.
Thanks for the help. I ended up doing a re-install/repair of PS CS2 to get the AHC back. For future reference, is it possible to extract the .zip files for the Packages folder from the CS2 CD without doing a complete reinstall? A quick look around the CD didn’t reveal the .zip files.
Unfortunately not. We are looking at making them available on line for download. Until that time I suggest you save a copy of the contents of the packages folder in a safe place.
