Is it useful and essential aplication? Or Photoshop uses monitor profile set by default in Color Management (Display Properties) ??
What’s the goal of Adome Gamma except monitor calibration?

Adobe Gamma is to calibrate your monitor, so you can use a color-managed workflow. It is not necessary if you use a third party monitor calibrator such as Monaco or Spyder. Using a hardware monitor calibrator is defenitely more accurate than not using one.

I beleive that Adobe Gamma can be used to load a profile you make with third party software, but I’m not sure.

Just verified this. Under windows, I launched Adobe Gamma, choose Control Panel mode. Then chose "load" and selected the ICC profile I had previously made with Optical.

I then resaved the profile with a different name and it fixed my problem. Which was adobe gamma being applied to my correct profile thus _WAY_ over saturating all colors. Good skin tone was "go to the dr right now!" sunburn color.

This was never an issue with CS, this is the first color cal I have done since CS2 upgrade.

Also be warned that the installer snuck Adobe Gamma into my "Startup" folder with out any mention of doing so. Lost about 3 hours thinking my spyder had died. 🙁

Didn’t the installation instruction that came with the spyder tell you to disable Adobe Gamma Loader (this is the program that does the evil deed)? Adobe Gamma relies solely on your eye being able to set the colors correctly.

The goal is to get a better profile than theone that comes with the video software. As CRTs age, they slowly change colors hence if the canned profiles were ever correct, they surely aren’t within a couple of years. Jim

Pipkin,

uses monitor profile set by default in Color Management <<

Adobe Gamma.cpl allows you to create a monitor profile SPECIFIC TO YOUR MONITOR. Manufacturer-supplied profiles are just generic. They are not specific to your particular monitor, which, in any case, will change its characteristics over time.

Adobe Gamma Loader.exe loads the profile created by Adobe Gamma.cpl
