The error message I get is: The instruction at “0x00864a4d” referenced memory at “0x00fa0b08”. The memory could not be “written”.

Click OK to terminate the program

I’ve never had this problem until today. I’ve been using CS2 for a few weeks now and have accessed help several times with no problems. Today for some reason all I get is the error.

I have not made any changes to my hardware or software and have tried re-booting but no success.

Does anyone know what the above message means or can anyone help me solve this sudden problem?

Sys specs:

Win XP Home SP 1
1 Gb RAM
2.54 GHz
ATI Radeon 9600 Pro with updated drivers

Thanks for your help,

Mike

it’s a dll version error. SOMEthing got updated/installed – automated or otherwise – if you’ve been using it before with no problem.

reinstalling cs2 should fix it.

Did reinstalling it worked? I did this and it still came up with the same error… When loading the software, this came up :

"Help Startup Error; Model subsystem returned this error 1016 and then that error you had popped up once you go into the program to hit one of the help options (how to options)… Do you know what may be wrong?

Also, Have you updated the help centre to 1.01? If not you should do so.

Hi Len,

Thank you for the pointer.
I did try this route and did try to download install the new help center (1.1) but the installation got a error. The error is: "The operation could not be completed." When I click OK this dialog appears: "Error 1722. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor".

I disable Virus scan program but it does not help.

Most of my image files are on a network drive. Does that have an effect?

I’m running CS2 with the last Camera Raw 3.2.
Platform is Windows XP latest patch.

Not on the Help Centre, certainly!

Thank you Len.
I wonder if I should try to get the help info from the Web instead of by clicking in PS or Bridge? Is there equivalent information on the Adobe site?

No, not that I’m aware of. There is however an acrobat .pdf version of the manual on your CD…

But don’t give up on getting the help centre functioning correctly!

If all else fails, I would do a complete uninstall of the Adobe applications, delete all the preference files, and the folders, and then re-install the apps.

Len,

I guess reinstall would help.
Do you have a pointer for a complete reinstall of PS CS2?

Another pointer is my laptop version is working fine with Help Center.

Thanks,
steve
