Hello,

When you right click anywhere on desktop > New, you see Adobe Photoshop.

Not even TweakUI or manually deleting .psd extension from the registry right click menu removes this Photoshop template from the right click menu.

It re-appears after a while, how can I get rid of it please + what it a list of all the extensions that Photoshop opens by default?

Thank you for your help.

You can get rid of it but it ain’t worth the bother because next time you start PS it will be there again.

It’s been like that for as long as I can remember and it’s bugged me for as long as I can remember. Who’s going to want to create a new PS document from a context menu anyway?

Right. Perhaps if there was a list of all the extensions that are associated by default with Photoshop (it’s not just .psd), perhaps if there was an extended list, and if all those extensions were edited in registry like so

Under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
find the three letter extension

Click on the + sign next to the extension
Delete all ShellNew folders below it.
(Right click on ShellNew folder below it and choose Delete.)

There may be several subfolders with ShellNew folders inside them. Just delete all Shell New folders within any subfolders.

Then maybe the right click > New > Photoshop template would not come back.

Sounds like too much work to me. Just ignore it.

….or if you can get me a list of extensions associated with Photoshop by default, I could do the ‘too much work’ part to find out if it really works, so people can (if they choose) have an alternative to ignoring it.

Unless you go to Bridge > Edit > Preferences > File Type Associations then Click "Reset to Default Associations". 😉

Are you saying there is a list of file extensions associated with Photoshop somewhere in Photoshop options?

What is ‘Bridge,’ as in Bridge > Edit > Preferences > File Type Associations…?

Windows XP only lists psd, 8bf and 8bi as Adobe Photoshop file types but there is more set by default when you first install Photoshop isn’t there?
