I have an image that is of fairly low resolution and I need to get a "smooth edged" version of it at a larger resolution. What I would like to do, is copy, paste and enlarge the image inside a larger file and then trace it with the pen tool to make a new, smoother, larger image. Not much of a problem i guess, except for that there are a lot of rounded corners in the object. so when i click around it with the pen tool, i end up with jagged corners…is there a way to round the lines created by the pen tool?

Any help with this would be MUCH appreciated…i am trying to finish up a project and am really stuck. THANKS IN ADVANCE!

A couple of things to remember when you do this: the path has directionality, so be sure not to backtrack. You can also change the type of control point by changing the tool you use to adjust them. Click and hold on the Pen tool to get to the other tools. I always find it easier to do a rough, but reasonably accurate, outline first and then go back and fit it, changing the types of control points as needed.

You might try to first make a selection with the lasso tool or Quick Mask, and then turn the selection into a path.

open the paths palette and select the icon at the bottom of the palette (hover over the icon where the help bubble says "make work path from selection")

With a selection active, click the "Make work path from selection" button at the bottom, (and near the middle), of the Paths palette.

(Faster) alternative: Mouseover a selection, then right click and choose "make work path…" you can even select a tolerance setting.
