Is there a way to open/convert a layered MS Picture It file into Photoshop 7? I’d be wonderful if I could just convert the many files at work to Photoshop files instead of having to recreate all of them. Anyone know?

Don’t get me wrong, I am a professional graphic designer (and use many Adobe products in my own freelance business), but a part-time job that I work at started off with MS Picture It until recently when I talked them into going with Photoshop; so it’d be wonderful if I could just convert the previous layered Picture It files into Photoshop instead of having to recreate all of them (and we’re talking about ALOT of image files).

Thanks in advance for your help. :o)

I’ve never used MS Picture It, but it does have the option of exporting its files in other formats. From the PictureIt! version 7 user manual:

Choosing a File Format
Picture It! allows you to save photos in a number of image file formats. You can determine the best format for saving your photos based on what you will use the photo for, compatibility with other computers, and file size. To help you understand the difference between file formats, here are some important characteristics of three common image formats:
■ Picture It! PNG Plus (.png+) saves the layers in your photo projects so you can edit them later. PNG plus offers lossless compression, but not all computers have the software to open PNG plus files.
■ TIFF (.tif) is a common format for cameras that produce lossless images. TIFF does not support layers, but is a good format for saving important photos, although the files are relatively large.
■ JPEG (.jpg) is the most common format for images since the files can be opened on practically any computer. JPEG does not support layers. JPEG compression reduces image quality slightly, but makes small files that work well most purposes, especially for e-mail and the Web

Why does PictureIt say that TIFF doesn’t support layers? It does in PS.

Could be that version 7 of PictureIT could export as TIFF files, but didn’t support the export of layered TIFFs.

Just a guess.
