After I go to Print with Preview, Let Photoshop determine colors, I enter Printer Profiles. Now I have an HP 970 CSE and If I go into the Printer properties themselves, there are profiles for the printer with different papers. But in the Printer Profile section in Print and PReview, these HP profiles are not listed. There Adobe RGB, some Epson profiles (I don’t have an Epson Printer) and a lot of other stuff, but the printer profiles which I know exist, are not listed. How do I get them to appear here? Thanks

If you can find the profiles ( extension ICM or ICC ), you can manually copy them to the correct location for your OS.
Windows 2000 and XP – sub-folder named system32/spool/drivers/color is probably the place for you. My suspicion , however, is that HP does not provide ICC compliant media profiles for their paper/ink combos, and you’ll have to follow HP directions for getting optimal results from their print driver. I suspect any profiles that do exist are integrated into the driver itself.

Brent,

I suppose you’re right. If that’s the case, would checking having the printer handle the color management work better than having Photoshop do it? And if not, what profile should I use if Photoshop is handling it, RGB 98 or my monitor’s profile or one of the others packaged with Photoshop cs2? Thanks

1. As Brent says.
2. Depending on the OS, a profile has to be ‘enabled’ or ‘activated’ (right mouse click on the file name).
3. The profile name is not the file name. The profiles appear in PhS as new profiles with arbitrary internal names.

Stephen,
I think , for HP drivers of your vintage, I’d set up the HP driver for all the variables of quality and paper ( internal profile, too, if you have that option ), then in the dropdown box for Output Space Profile in Print Preview, experiment with " Printer Color Management" and "Same as Source". See which option works best with the HP driver.
The HP 970 ( and others of that vintage , like my wife’s Photo 1115) need to have the image in the sRGB colorspace . Any other colorspace may mess up the driver. Somewhere on the HP site there is a reference to this requirement.
"An incorrect color management file (.ICM) that causes the displayed color to be different than the printed color may be installed. HP Photosmart Color Inkjet Printers only support sRGB.ICM. That is, if any other color management is used, it may cause the printer to use colors other than those displayed. To correct this, or to troubleshoot, follow the steps below: …"

Hope this helps some .
