Hi,

i would like to buy a new computer and would like to know what is the ”Dream Configuration” for a designer so that he can work easily and without feeling any slow downs etc etc. i work mostly on web application and sometimes i do some printing for T-shirts. i have had a job reqeuest for a billboard design but turned it down because i didn’t have much experience in the current field and didn’t have neccesary hardware. Apart from a sexy apple G5 and tons of Ram what configuration would you suggest me?

thanks.

p.s. is it necessary for a designer to know much about technology and be aware of what is happening in the computer world. as i have read in this newsgroup most usual posters have a strong background in computer technology. they also have a strong backgroung in Physics also to be talking of color theory and color curves and how color are seen by the eye. is there a formation for that kind of stuff, is there a course that designers must go through or is it that they have learn all that by themselves?

The experience is a biggie, but as for hardware, I’ve designed billboards on an antique Macintosh IIvx. It’s slow, but you can do it; remember, people have been doing this sort of task since before the days of the original Pentium!

A sexy G5 and tons of RAM. There’s your dream system, right there. 🙂

As far as the functionality of the programs go, they’re essentially identical. The menus, command keys, tools, and other program features are absolutely the same through both platforms.

The Mac version of Photoshop has one image format (PICT Resource) that the PC version doesn’t, and the Mac has built-in system-level color management, which Windows lacks. Other than that, though, the workflow is the same.
