Wacom Tablets and OS X?

I have a Wacon Tablet that is around six years old. Will the older os 9 versions of the Wacom tablets work on the new OS X Macs? Or should I buy a new one?

Mine works with Panther. If I remember correctly, I had to download and install a new driver.

I use an old Intuos on a G4 tower, 10.2.8; and an old Graphire on a G4 PowerBook. They work just as well under OS X, Classic, and booted into
9.2.2.

The very old tablets with ADB connections will NOT work. But any USB Wacom will work fine. You’ll need an OS X driver o’course.

Six years old? If it is ADB or serial, you might be out of luck. The serial and ADB tablets will not work on a modern Mac even if you use a USB to serial/ADB adapter.

Some G3 and G4 Macs can be upgraded by adding a serial port. The "G port", it is called. Darn if I can remember the name of the company that makes it. I had put one in my B&W G3 some time before I sold it. Never got around to installed OS X drivers for the port since I no longer had a use for it after moving to a cable modem.

Another serial option is the Stealth Port, which you can get at geethree.com. <http://GeeThree.com/stealth/stealth.html>

These products for adding a serial port to a Mac take the place of the interanl modem, which traditionally, is a serial device. If you have a mirror drive G4, looking at the modem in the System Profiler will show you that the modem is a USB modem – interanl USB, that is, so a serial port added to take it’s place will be a USB to serial adapter, and the Wacom tablet will not work.

If you have a G3 (biege or B&W), it might work with an ADB tablet, since those have ADB ports.
