Just double checked the date on your post in case it was very old one which had suddenly reappeared.

Whoever sold you the upgrade was pulling your leg I’m afraid. The only "upgrade" you can buy now is to the latest version of Photoshop – that is CS2.

You don’t need to go from 6 to 7, 7 to 8 (CS) etc. You can upgrade from PS6 straight to CS2 – for the same price.

Try and get your money back and go to the Adobe Store (link at the top of this page) to order the proper upgrade. You’ll need your PS6 CD handy when you install the upgrade – and, of course, it will have to have been registered.

Okay George. I assume therefore, it’s a legitimate version and that it’s registered to you.

As for having both programs in your Start menu: You can safely remove PS6 via "add/remove programs" in the Control Panel. When you receive a prompt asking if you wish to remove a shared file – say No, otherwise you might remove something which PS7 needs. If in doubt just leave PS6 in place. It will do no harm and takes up very little disk space.

Chris.

PS: When posting in the forum, don’t start your paragraphs with a lower case i. This causes the paragraph into italics which can be harder to read on screen.

Thats great. The version is registered to me.so if i remove ps6 and keep the shared files,i should not lose any filters etc…?Thanks for your reply!

i should not lose any filters etc…?

That’s right, so long as you installed PS7 into its own directory, any filters/plug-ins associated with it should still work.

If you pointed PS7 at the PS6 plug-ins directory, you might want to make a backup copy of these before uninstalling – just in case.

As I said, if you’re in any doubt, it will do no harm to leave PS6 installed.

Unless you need the hard drive space there is no real need to delete PS6. One of the reasons newer versions of PS do not delete older versions when you upgrade has to do with the filters.
Not all filters that worked in an earler version of PS will work in later versions, and vice versa.
The installation of PS7 does not migrate any filters you installed in PS6. You have to do this manually.
If any of the filters you installed in PS6 will not work in PS7 you can still use them if you keep PS6 on your hard drive.
