I just bought cs2 yesterday. I paid for the PC version. Today while looking at my options to upgrade my computer, I was strongly recommended to buy a mac instead of a PC. I already paid for my PC version of CS2. Is there a way I can trade that in for a Mac serial instead?

dawn: Depending on the PC, there is no reason to ‘strongly recommend’ buying a Mac.

I was strongly recommended to buy a mac instead of a PC.

By whom and based on what?

Ten years ago this would have been true.

Today I’d "strongly recommend" you stick with what you are used to (be it a PC or a Mac).

call adobe customer service. since you have cs2 (current version) they should be able to do a cross platform license for you. you agree to destroy the win version (faxing them some form stating you have) and they send you a mac version for shipping (and maybe a nominal fee?).

The PC versus Mac stuff really took an interesting turn today with Steve Jobs’ announcement this morning at the WWDC that Apple will transition away from IBM PowerPC processors and go with Intel. Yep. In 2006, the "Mactel PC" will be born. The entire Mac line should be running Intel CPUs by the end of 2007.

The Apple-Intel annoucement is short on some specifics -most noteably, will these new Intel-based Macs be able to dual boot Windows? Personally I would really love that. It would be far easier for me to switch to the MacOS if I can still use my legacy applications. That would make the migration of licenses to the Mac platform easier. I wouldn’t have to buy all that Mac-based software at once (that would cost me a fortune). I think Apple would sell a huge number of systems if this were possible. So many Windows users are really fed up with the virus threats and other security problems.

It would also be nice if more software developers would ship their applications in "single inventory" boxes containing both Mac and PC installers. Lightwave3D is one of the few major creative applications that does this (the box even includes a cross platform compatible USB dongle).

conspicuously, there’s no guarantee or mention they’ll be x86 compatable…

Bobby

The announcement I read said that Apple stressed that the Mac OS would not run on anything other than an Apple Macintosh.

Don, they will actually only work with a Mac motherboard/BIOS, but the rest of the parts are inter-changeable with PC, have been for several years.
