I often run Photoshop CS using a dual CRT monitor setup (two 21" at 1600×1200 resolution). Now one monitor is died, must replace it. I’m tempted by the new EIZO L887 20" LCD monitor.

This product is supposed to closely match the performance of traditional CRT monitor

I’m interested in your opinion about this product, in case of negative feedback, the alternative is a traditional Philips CRT 202P40.

Another thing I would like to know is about Adobe Gamma (Windows version. Is fully compatible with LCD monitor ?

Thanking in advance for any suggestion and sorry for this slightly off topic post.

Maryo,

No. Adobe Gamma is not designed to work with LCD monitors.

No experience of the Eizo, sorry.

I use at work an Eizo L768 LCD (the 19 inches one). It is rather good (though it’s not as good as the best CRT).

Anyway, Eizo LCD monitor have been commented (and praised) in these forums (Photoshop and Colour management ones, to be specific) if you want to make a search about them.

My own (and lay) opinion: For a piece of hardware like this is worth the while making the extra mile of buying a colorimetre like the Eye-1 Display2 by Gretag Macbeth or the Monaco Optix XR. The Eye-1 Display2 it’s just 250 euros more or less, for example and the before-after effect is noticeable.

Thanks all for the information, after reading several post about CRT vs LCD , I think I will buy another CRT monitor.

I was LCD tempted, probably for the new inside technology and the attractive design.

It’s better to stay "traditional" for this time.

Greetings.
