When using sharpening functions in CS2 (either Photo shop Smart Sharpen or 3rd party plug-ins)the adjusted image does not result in the fully sharpened image shown in the preview, it ends up at about 60%. I have tried in CS (1) and it works fine as it always did – any experience?

I think I am seeing the same thing. In CS2 when using Smart Sharpen I see the sharpened image while the dialogue box is open but when I hit okay and the image is processed it seems to revert back to an unsharpened image.

Hi solbl,
I have tried everything I know including reloading the programme and it’s still the same, in fact is is now worse in that there is no sharpening at all. I also have FocalBlade as a plug-in and the same fault is present so at the moment I cannot use CS2. By the way was your CS2 downloaded or from CD?

HI Peter,

My CS2 was from a disk.

I may have missed something, however. What I describe in my earlier message is true but when the image is enlarged on the screen to say "actual print size" and then run through Smart Sharpen it seems to work better. So what I am saying is that the loss of sharpening seems only to occur when the image on the screen is small.

Try that and tell me what you find.

Always apply and judge sharpening at 100% magnification. Ofcourse the level of sharpening varies according to output, but you can only judge it at 100%, as anything else is an approximated preview.

Another thing is that if you are viewing at anything other than 100%, 50%, or 25%, the image isn’t going to show you the details properly. You also get a lot of moire (sp?) if you use an "odd" magnification.
