Im trying to create a glossy button & this is what happens.

1.I created a 500 x 500 pixel document with a white background

2.I choose the elipitical tool to make a circle

but when I try to fill in that circle with color using the gradiant tool or bucket nothing happens.

It just remains white. what am i doing wrong.

Probably not reading the manual is your undoing.

Do you have a color other than white selected, as the foreground color?

Are you using the elliptical selection tool rather than the elliptical shape tool?

Could you possibly have your color mode set to overlay or something else?

Try this tutorial site, scan about half way down the page (center column ) to find a rectangle labeled New Photoshop Tutorials, click there and find the INTERFACE EFFECTS TUTORIALS – AQUA BUTTONS link, should help: http://www.eyeball-design.com/fxzone/frames01.htm

Just tried out the same steps you did and it’s working this way !?!

I just found another tutorial for doing the same thing :

I hope this will help …

You don’t need a different tutorial. You need to be using a different tool! You’re using the "Elliptical tool" and then trying to fill it. My guess is that you’re using the Ellipse SHAPE tool. You need to be using the Elliptical Marquee (selection) tool which is at the top left, under the Rectangular Marquee. Click and hold the Rect. Marquee to see the Elliptical one.

And… while we’re posting tutorials… LOL… I have one of my own for a similar effect: http://www.myjanee.com/tuts/capsule/capsule.htm
