I have been using version 7 for 18 months with excellent results. I just upgraded to CS version and have hit a problem and I would be really grateful if anyone out there can help me.

Everything works OK. It’s terrific ! I get a fabulous image on screen. Then the problem starts when I print it.

Any shadow area of the image comes out a bright mottled orange colour. The odd thing is a black dress say comes out normally. It’s just the shadows that go wrong. I’m desperate for a solution.

My operating system is Windows 2000 printer is an Epson stylus photo 1290

This rig was giving me excellent prints up to A3 size before I upgraded to CS version. Trouble is I can’t even get back to Photoshop 7 as I upgraded to that from v 5 with a download and that seemed to work just the one time.

Here’s hoping some guru out there can help me.

Firstly, you should not have uninstalled v.7 until later, after using CS long enough to be sure it’s working right for you.

Check all of your settings/preferences carefully – it sounds like some may be set differently from how you had PS7 set up (e.g. perceptual v. relative colorometric rendering for print, etc.). You may also have to adjust your printer settings or, optimally, obtain (build or buy) a printer profile for your prints.

Funny, I’ve seen that mentioned several times, and I do the same thing, after over a decade using Photoshop.

Which is really just sad, when you think about it: that we’re all so used to not being able to trust the damned thing when a new version is first released.
