What I do is I find the shape of the sign I like on the web,I then save it open it in photoshop & then I spray paint over it with the brush to hide the type & then I insert my on type.

But it does not look clean ,it leaves behind some watery looking residue on my finished type & signs, what am i doing wrong.

The reason I do it this way is sometimes the layers our flattened & its easier to just paint & type over it.

Also if I put white type over a red sign, the white type looks like it mixed in with the red sign.

Can someone tell me a easy way to create my signs with out the watery residue or the the color of the sign bleeding into the type

want to create the ads like in macys , sears etc….

When I look at the pro ads lke sears, macys etc the type is perfectly white & theres no red backgrond bleeding into my white type

Well, I’m guessing that Sears and Macys are not starting by copying low quality images from the web as a starting point. You are seeing jpg degradation, and it comes from repeatedly saving a jpg.

The solution is to build your ads entirely in Photoshop, and minimize taking things from the net. If possible, scan package boxes to get good, high resolution images to work from. If you do take them from the net (I’m sure you are asking the copyright holder for permission in each case, and not just stealing the images) take as little from such a source as possible.

Finally, only save for web to jpg. Keep your originals as PSD.

And if by "sign" you mean the bursts, if you are that hard up for that kind of shape, leave your email address and I’ll send you a few. These are really, really simple to make in Illustrator.

Even if you do it entirely in Photoshop, you should be able to get better results than by copying JPGs of starbursts and editing them and dropping them into other copied JPGs. Use the polygon tool, and in the options bar set the number of sides (points) and use the geometry options to set it to star geometry and adjust the parameters. Set it to do shapes. Drag and create starbursts. Use Free transform to change their shape, and then add text. Finally, use SFW to save the whole image as a JPG of the appropriate size and quality.

For an example, click on this < http://www.pixentral.com/show.php?pic=1epelt44SoRvEP4psNcnqy sUsL6Wf>.

And, for what it’s worth, it is deceptive to advertise your starting bid at $1.50 when that is NOT your reserve starting price. $1.50 is NOT the starting bid that someone can win the auction with, it is merely the lowest bid that you can offer to minimize the fees you pay E-bay.
I’d be honest and put the reserve price as your "auction special."

Pullling images off the Web and using them comercially is illegal without permission, so he’s already dishonest.

I hate to say it, but he sounds like a scam artist from the info that he’s posted.

Why are you people so negative with your diabolical Darth Vader attitude.

Why don’t you call the most used & respected auction site , "ebay" a scam because I’m doing the same exact thing as they are doing & thats setting a starting price & setting a reserve price,& not exposing what the reserve price is has been used in auctions every since auctions were invented

But if i put that in my ad I’m a scam artist, also the site lets everyone know that the item has a reserve price. so there is nothing dishonest about it,if you don’t want to bid higher then don’t bid higher.

This practice is as common as society’s cynical negative diabolical attitudes

Why don’t you people just stick to what you know & thats photo shop, obviously you know nothing about auctions

If pulling a burst shape off the web erasing the type & color & inserting my own color & type is considered stealing than i wasn’t aware of that. thanks for letting me know & i will create my own.

But I am not a thief or a scam artist & I’m sorry for asking anyone for advice, I should have known better. Its in peoples nature to belittle, putdown, criticize, accuse etc…& I should have known that you guys are no different.

Having a low starting price and a higher secret reserve price is standard operating procedure on eBay — and in many "traditional" open-outcry auctions, as well. The fact that there is a reserve is disclosed on the eBay page; nobody who has used eBay will be misled.

Andre, for what it’s worth, I don’t see anything wrong with what you’re doing. On eBay, realistically, you’re just showing the potential bidders what your item looks like. Not making a profit from your photoshop work, just your item. Now, for your picture, I think that the problem is simply that it is a low quality jpeg, as everyone else has said. Try opening the image in photoshop, and do what you normally do to place the type, and look closely at the image to see if it still looks like the underlying color is bleeding through in the text (inside photoshop, before saving it). It mostly likely won’t look like it’s bleeding through because it’s vector based, and not simply pixels. Then, save the image as the highest quality jpeg, or as a tiff file. That should completely eliminate any bleeding through. Now, I hardly saw any bleeding through, but just be sure that your opacity is set to 100% and that you haven’t placed any blending options or blur on the text. I just think that the problem is that you are saving it as a low quality jpeg, so you see the deterioration it has on the image.

To make your text stand out more, go into the blending options and add a drop shadow, outer glow, or stroke or something to separate it better from the background color. That makes it look more professional. Or you could use livepaint in illustrator cs2 and make your own vector based high quality ad based on one you found on the internet with no deterioration, but that’s a whole different thing. Hope that helped.

Andre,

I believe I see what you mean. Those are jpeg artifacts that make the letters look like they are "mixing" with the colored background.

You may save as gif to get rid of this effect, or use your sign as a background in a table, and place your type over the sign using an html editor such as Mozilla (free), DreamWeaver, or FrontPage.

A higher quality jpeg would also work, giving a cleaner look to the type.

To make your text stand out more, go into the blending options and add a drop shadow, outer glow, or stroke or something to separate it better from the background color.

also look at the anti-aliasing options. maybe strong or sharp might work better than what’s currently set. especially at smaller font sizes.

I wouldn’t necessarily go full quality on the jpg though. use save for web and you can see the results of different compressions in real time. usually med. to high (60-80%) will get you near full quality and much better size for faster downloading. that’s why it’s there, use it! 🙂

But also remember that this is eBay, and eBay compresses your pictures for you. eBay looks at the number of pictures rather than the size of the pictures, so in this instance, the highest quality will give you the best results. That’s the safest way, in my opinion. For any other web stuff, then use the save for web option because in that instance, the size of the image matters as nobody will compress it for you.

I think ebay standard picture size is constrained into 400 x 400 unless you pay more, so if you constrain your pics to 400 you should get the best quality possible. (may the force be with you (-:
