how to make a collage of pics

I’m sure this is easy but, not working for me.

I would like to make a 20×30 poster of various related pics.

had the background good and the pictures placed but the resolution of the individual pics turned out very bad.

obviously, I did something very wrong.

Any help on what I’m missing?

You need to start with big hi-res images, scan them in at 600 dpi.
