I can eliminate all the background from an object. I can then place it in the exact background color as the web page.. I even make sure the hexadecimals are the same.

As long as I’m in Photoshop everything looks perfect. I can increase the magnification to 500% or more and their is no hint of the former background, When I move it to an email or the web there is a often a thin section of background surrounding the image. It only about 1 pixel wide, but ii is very noticeable.

I am presently using P.S CS2, but I’ve had the same problem with earlier versions.

Does anyone have any advice.

Layer|Matting|Defringe (choose number of pixels; start with 1) -or- Layer|Matting|Remove (black or white) Fringe

Sounds like defringe should work for you, Mike.

(You may be able to omit Step 1 if the halo is not severe.)

Step 1: Select the target area and contract the selection by 1 or 2 pixels. Invert the selection and delete the unwanted background along with the contracted edge (the halo).
Step 2: Select the target again (Ctrl-click on the layer name) and contract it by 2 pixels
Invert the selection to the deleted background.and its 2-pixel border. Go to the mask mode for the selection (Q) and apply a 2-pixel Gaussian Blur to fade in the target material along the edge..
Delete the softened edge. (The blurred target pixels will remain.) Create a new layer below the target layer for your new background.
