Is there any way to stretch only PART of a font? Say you like the shape of a "T" but want the stem to be a bit longer without stretching the rest… is there a way to do this without losing the vector qualities of the layer? I don’t want to rasterize it, but I don’t mind converting it to shape. As long as it remains vector-based.

Thanks.

PS: Using PS7.1

Only using the controls on the charachter pallett, else you need to rasterise it. tip duplicat layer and rasterise, hide the text layer and you can alwas start again.

As you said, convert it to a Shape (Layer>Type>Convert to Shape) and use the Direct Selection Tool to select the points you want and stretch it out. I would use the Arrow keys if possible.

I used to do this in CorelDraw, you "convert the text to curves" and then you can edit (drag, stretch delete , etc.,) the displayed nodes with the Node tool. I haven’t seen anything similar in Illustrator, never mind PS.

Ignore this,
you can convert the text to a shape and the use the pen tool to drag the resulting nodes about, ……you learn something new every day! HTH

Ignore the above as well, .After selecting Layer>Type> Convert to shape, use the "direct selection tool" to drag the nodes about, it shares a flyout with the path selection tool.
