I did some tests with my Rebel XT shooting raw+jpg.
I found the raw had a lot of noise and the jpg very little. I can only assume that the in camera processing is quite good for jpg. It does an excellent job of sharpening, noise reduction and compression. I know the advantages of raw but am having a difficult time reducing the noise down to where the jpg is. I have the plugin for this camera in Photoshop. If anyone uses this plugin please let me know. I would also appreciate any input others might have about this.

Thanks

You are not the first person to believe this is so about their images on these newsgroups.
I can only presume that people who feel that an in-camera processed jpeg has less noise than a raw image do not know what noise really is, do not know how to process a raw image or, possibly, both.
My experience with different camera raw formats and in-camera jpeg processing is distinctly the opposite.
While in-camera jpeg processing can yield satisfactory images jpeg images never have the color accuracy or noise levels that can be achieved with proper use of a raw converter. Realize in-camera jpeg sharpening is arbitrary and irreversibly degrades the final image for printing compared to what you can achieve with a raw image that is not sharpened until sharpening is needed and tuned for a specific printing or imaging purpose. Additionally, particularly with the Canon dSLR kit lens at wide angle focal lengths, the Adobe raw converter can reduce lens aberrations that jpeg processing will permanently embed in the image file. Vignetting can be corrected in a jpeg image but even this is better handled at the raw stage. Raw processing is a complex subject and there are many video tutorials on the subject available on the web. If you use the Adobe raw converter properly you can achieve far more with your images than in-camera jpeg processing, but the choice is yours. I would encourage you to learn more about the subject.
