len,

thank you for your reply,

unfortunately i do not have tweakui installed, so it doesn’t seem to apply….i have got very used to this problem now, as i always just add the extension by hand….a re-install of the os may fix it, but that would be a little extreme for me at the mo..so many apps to re-install 🙂

Hi liquidguru,
Yeh ive also tried everything possible to remedy this, i save as a jpeg, the screen comes up, i then go to find my jpeg in documents and its a blank little 207kb file thats useless unless i name it jpg. . So fed up with CS2 i went back to the infinitely better CS.
Oh a reinstall of the OS does not fix this issue, i did that to.

thanks for the message col,

the trouble is i had this problem with CS aswell…i suppose i must have tweaked something on my system in the past, and this has been the result..

at least i can ignore the little voice in the back of my head that quietly says ‘maybe a re-install of the OS will fix it’

🙂

Its very odd Guru,
I had CS2 working great when i accidentally formatted my drive using a 32KB Cluster size. It zipped along without an error, lol.
But having said that sometimes anything above the default 4KB cluster can cause other problems, anyway… i reformatted hoping CS2 would work fine again, but nope the problem came back.
Im not saying this is the solution, BUT.. it did work 100% for me at the time.

I didn’t see whether this is the situation or not. When you save as the file type, does the .jpg or .psd appear in the dialog? And do you then type another name in the dialog without including the jpg or psd? Or is the problem that you do type the jpg/psd and it subsequently disappears?

The problem occurs when i save the jpeg, which ive worked on, text or retouching etc, then save as jpeg, the save as jpeg box appears, i save the file, and i go to get it in documents and its a blank little white "FILE" with no attributes whatsoever. I have to rename it *whatever.jpg* to get it to work which is a real pain everytime. This never ever happened in CS.which im now sticking to.

Cheers, Col

my problem is a little different…

if i say, on any file i’ve been working on, ‘save as’, it will intially bring up the save as file name as ‘example.psd’….if i then change the type of file to ‘save as’ as anything else (jpg, tiff, whatever) it will keep the same file name and extension is the box, i.e. example.psd ….i have to manually change the file name to example.jpg and then click save…if i do not manually change the file name it will save the file as example.psd, but the actual file would be saved in jpg format. of course my system would then try to open the file as a .psd file, but wouldn’t be able to recognise it. if i then change the file name, manually, to example.jpg i can then open it in photoshop, windows viewer no problems..

hope this makes sense 🙂

I tried everything, but although id love to run CS2, i am quite happy with CS which has never given me any trouble. CS2 seems to need a degree in engineering or similar to get it set up right.Sigh.
Incidentally, in the save options i discovered that if i use the OS save system and not the Adobe save system (hope youre still with me here) everything saves fine, why do you think should that be ??
Maybe that will give others on here pointers for my problem.

(Having once been in the military, I keep wanting to call you "Sir". 😉 )

I am glad you cured your problem by "not having TweakUI on my machine at all". What I do not understand is why that worked.

TweakUI is, as far as I know, just a way of changing Windows settings made easy. Its mere prescence on a machine will not change anything and removing it will not undo any changes that you may have used it to make.

Can you explain this?

Hi John,
Its been reported by Adobe ,and is in the Frequently asked questions here to, its all to do with one setting in TweakUI, this was originally posted by Len, so thanks to him, esp from me as it fixed my problem 100%

Well yes, I remember reading that but it doesn’t answer my question.

Don’t worry, I’m just curious.

By the way I have TweakUI on this machine but without the problem. In fact, with a better understanding of the increased range of computer management tools available in XP Pro (eg Group Policy Editor), TweakUI is pretty superfluous.

Yes John ,
I had TweakUI on my machine solely to put Control Panel in My Computer, but knowing more now i know i can go to Tools/Folder options/View and tick "put a shortcut to Control Panel in My Computer" I also used it to remove balloon tips, and i did tick the bit about auto complete CS2 and CS really dont like, that caused big big trouble, and i had to format to resolve it.
Nothing wrong with being curious (grin) Regards Col

Hello, I am having this same Save problem using CS. I don’t find anything on my Hard Drive called TweakUI. Is this a program or a plugin? If I don’t have that then what else is it?

Thanks
Jim

If you never downloaded and installed it you haven’t got it.

Right, that’s my point. I read in another thread that after removing TweakUI from his machine it fixed the problem. So if I never had it then what else would the problem be?

Our IT dept recently locked down a lot of access to various items such as quicklaunch, appearance, etc. Lot’s of control panels are not accessible. So I wonder if there is something there. It is hard to get our IT dept to get things done and I doubt they would know what the problem is. They would just blame it on Photoshop. So any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Jim

hey col,

i’ve discovered that i did indeed have tweak ui installed….it shows up in my add/remove programs…however, when i try to remove it a big window opens up, with a title of ‘res://C:\WINDOWS\System32\TweakUI.exe/uninstall.hta
but nothing in the window, and nothing else happens…i have to hit the close button, and the prog stays in add/remove programs

any ideas? (beyond re-installing windows)

cheers, and i hope you are enjoying the freedom of saving all your files in whatever format you desire 🙂

Hi Guys,
Sorry, Jim im not sure what it could be then. ?
LiquidG AHAAA !! Im afraid youll be in the same boat as me , i luckily ghosted my machine without having TweakUI on it, so i didnt have to do a complete reinstall (lucky i know) If you have TweakUi, uninstalling it doesnt do the trick, youll need to redo from scratch the OS.
Good luck anyway and keep me posted.
