You guys is right! I never noticed that Bridge has its own built-in set of file associations.

The question is — does Bridge pick these up from Windows upon installation (in which case, Windows must have them right or reinstalling Bridge won’t help) or does it create them on its own?

Perhaps re-posting the original question in the Bridge forum will attract some useful responses.

Success at last!! I tried the "file – open" and double click but the images still wouldn’t open in Photoshop, so I went back to Bridge file preferences and sure enough there was "browse" at the bottom of the list, so I went into each file type – jpeg, tiff etc – and changed them all to Photoshop, now they open directly from Bridge as they should. The weird thing is that my laptop, which also has CS2, doesn’t have this problem! Never mind, thanks to all for your help.

Anyway, glad it’s sorted.
