smart object linking

I want to share a smart object with multiple people.
I create smart object and click to edit it. When the edits are done I want to save it to a network folder.

Is there a way for another user to place the .psb file and keep the link active between two different files?

No, Smart Objects do not link to external files.

And thank goodness too. The last thing I need is to track smart object links.
