Fresh install of PS 7.0 with upgrade performed. PS would never run. Consistently got "Could not Initialize because of a program error" just as the splash screen got to checking memory. After reading through forum I (just for grins) upon program start held down "alt", "cntrl" and changed the scratch dish from "F" to "C". Problem solved. Loads fine.

My query is now, why can’t I select drive "F" (preferred drive,,,,80gigs contiguous free space and not primary Windows drive). I’ve used PS 7.0 on Win2000Pro for years with the scratch disk set-up on "F" with no problem. It’s not life or death but I’m must be missing something pretty simple. Thanks, THane

Windows XP/SP2
Pentium 4 2.53GHZ
1 GB Ram

NVIDIA GEForce FX5200
Primary DRive "C" 54 gig free
Secondary DRive "F" 80 gig free. Defraged twice a week.

Who says that you can’t use the F-drive as scratch?
You stated:

Now the first part of that (deleting the preferences file) probably did the trick. IMO it was not needed to also change the scratch drive to "C".

Hi Rob,

Thanks for the quick response. Well I thought the same, however, when I go back into pref and switch the 1st scratch drive back to "F", quit the program and re start, the same error message comes up and the program won’t load. Re start and hold down "alt", "cntrl" and switch 1st scratch drive back to "C" and the program runs fine.
