Problem is in Adobe Photoshop CS2 on WinXP SP2:

Symptoms: When I select any tool from the Tools toolbar, e.g. brush, blur, text, etc., and I move my pointer to the current image, the tool does not work. I am stuck with a normal pointer that does nothing, not even select.

Even though the icon in the toolbar is selected and depressed, clicking on the image does not do anything, no matter what tool I’m using.

Any suggestions would be great, and if anybody needs further clarification on the problem just ask.

Thanks, James.

Do you have a tablet, and maybe a pen laying on it? If so, move the pen off the tablet.

And have you tried resetting the Photoshop preferences?

Just a note– I even reinstalled photoshop, and the I’m still having problems. Chris, is there a tab to reset all preferences with one click. If so, where? And, being rather new to PS, I don’t know what you mean by moving a pen off a tablet.

If you don’t have a Wacom digitizing tablet & stylus, or something similar from another manufacturer, just ignore that.

Reset preferences:

Remove/Reinstall doesn’t get you a fresh set of prefs. You have to make a conscious point to do it.

Ok, I don’t have a tablet. So that’s out of the way.

Phosphor– Does it matter that the page you linked me to is for CS, not CS2? If not, I looked in the Doc and Settings/username/ directory and there was no Application Data folder.

How do I replace that folder, as reinstalling does not do that?

Go back and read the second paragraph a little more carefully. That’ll reset ’em.

No offense, but we don’t post things like that for no reason. If you’re instructed to go check out a link, it’s up to YOU to read it.

there was no Application Data folder.<<

There is – but you need to set explorer options to view hidden files and folders to see it.
