My brush settings are not saved when I save a brush (Photoshop CS).

With ‘settings’ I mean the settings in the brush palette, settings like scattering, shape dynamics, spacing, etc.

I have however downloaded and installed brushes that had these settings saved, so it should be possible, but the question is: how?

Thank you.

I make my settings for a brush, then in the options bar at the left, with a brush enabled tool selected, I click preset dropdown, and then Add new brush…

Everytime I select that brush from the presets palette, my settings are in tact.

Don’t tell me that nobody can explain to me how to save a brush AND its settings 🙁 Or is the answer really that difficult? I have asked the same question on other forums and don’t get an answer either. I guess "silence" is also an answer; simply that you guys don’t know it. I must say, I’m amazed, I thought this forums was the creme de la creme of the Photoshop gurus lol

So who is the brightest Photoshop user on this forum? Let him please come forward, because an applause is waiting for you.

Tony already answered your question.

It just goes to show that what my grandfather always said is true:

Tony said: "I make my settings for a brush, then in the options bar at the left, with a brush enabled tool selected, I click preset dropdown, and then Add new brush…

Everytime I select that brush from the presets palette, my settings are in tact."

I guess the only one that can read is me. I clearly stated "My brush settings are not saved when I save a brush " and I also said "I have however downloaded and installed brushes that had these settings saved".

So let me explain it again to those who can’t read:

I save a brush to a file, I open it again and the settings should be intact. I’m talking here about brush FILES, you know, the ones that end with .ABR not about losing settings while working with a brush.

Oh ok, maybe Tony actually meant when he said "Everytime I select that brush from the presets palette, my settings are in tact."

"Everytime when I save and load that brush, my settings are in tact".

For those who can’t read: <http://www.glencoe.com/sec/teachingtoday/tiparchive.phtml/7> and stay on topic

For those who can read: do you know the answer?

You’re setting out to make as many allies as possible in your quest for knowledge, eh Modena?

Douchebag Ingrate.

As long as you’re reading—at a higher level than anyone else here, by your own account—I trust you understand that one.

I don’t think it’s a matter of not being able to read, as much as it is a matter of not understanding; that, IMO, starts with the request.

For example:

My brush settings are not saved when I save a brush (Photoshop CS).

Doesn’t seem too abiguous, but obviously is because "save a brush" can mean different things.

With ‘settings’ I mean the settings in the brush palette, settings like scattering, shape dynamics, spacing, etc.

Okay clarification to support the notion that we’re talking about settings, not files.

have however downloaded and installed brushes that had these settings saved, so it should be possible,

So this is where the clarity wanes. Put all together, it appears as though you are asking about current brush settings.

Upon further examination in your subsequent posts, your question really is, When I save a Brush file and re-load it, either on this machine or another, the settings with which I saved it are not retained.

I know the answer to that question too. But I am not going to tell you. Have a nice day <smile>

My brush settings are not saved when I save a brush (Photoshop CS).

Saving a brush is saving a brush. I’m not writing that I’m saving presets or settings. If you don’t know what "saving a brush" means then do some research on Google: "save a brush" photoshop

You don’t know the answer, simple as that.

Next one.

If you don’t know what "saving a brush" means

I say you keep checking the thread to see if you can get an answer then.

Maybe do a search on the names of some of the respondants to this thread? Or not. Google them.

I rescind my <strike>.

You are a douchebag.

Just FYI, and to be sure I wasn’t running up against a behavior I was unfamiliar with:

I cleared all my brushes.

Closed and relaunched Photoshop.

Created a brush with some bizarre settings. Saved the brush as "Bizarre Brush #1".

Used the Presets Manager to save it out to my desktop, in its own, isolated "*.abr" file.

Closed and relaunched Photoshop again.

Cleared my brushes (well, it was only 1) again.

Closed and relaunched Photoshop.

Loaded "Bizarre Brush #1".

It retained all of the crazy settings I initially chose for it.

The End.

Reading this thread I recall a certain "Devi8or", that also had a thread where he/she asked a question, got answers and then started to flame.
Two years back I recall…

Modena, you’re biting the hands that feed you (on your own request). BTW I know the answer too

You don’t

" You just gave him the answer. Sigh."

Maybe so, but I happily branded him an ungrateful and arrogant douchebag, so all’s right with my world today.

Many of us NEVER forget. We may reassess, but we DON’T forget. Does it look as if I care one moment kiddo.

Btw, name calling is always a reflection of ones lack of intelligence or age, I’m sure you knew that.

Thanks for the info, even if it took 16 posts.

Reading skills guys, make sure you practice them before you post.

Have a nice day.

Yup. You guessed it.

I’m just a stupid, illiterate punk-ass teenager.

But I knew the answer—a simple one which could’ve been sussed out with a little methodical experimentation, supplemented with ::GASP!:: a little reading of the manual, or Help files—and you didn’t, you ungrateful arrogant douchebag.

I find it ironic that a person who continually rags on other poster’s reading ability could not himself read the PS help files to find his answer.

After all, there is a section entitled, "Creating and managing preset brushes." That seems pretty self-explanatory to me.
