Hi,
Some of my actions require that the original picture have a bottom layer called "background". Unfortunately, this layer is often renamed something else by other actions. Is there a way to have it renamed "background" and that this option is "accepted" by the actions? When I do it manually, the actions still say "the object background" is not currently available.
Thanks for your suggestions,
Sylvia

add rename bottom layer to "Background" as the 1st step in your actions. or better, create an action that does it then you can call THAT action from within your other actions.

I THINK that will work…

Thanks for your suggestions, Dave, but that doesn’t work. So far, the only solution I found was to copy-paste the layer into a new document, but it’s kinda a pain…

Just a thought – it sounds like, apologies if I am mistaken, that you are using a template based approach? With a set and specified background?

I wonder if it would be easier to have multiple copies of the ‘template’ and action other layers on top of it?

I admit I am no action expert though… maybe:

1 – take a copy of template

2 – rename it

3- add the other images/layers to the copied and renamed file

4 – save

If you only have one layer – and it has been renamed (say) Layer 1 – using "Flatten Layers" will rename it back to Background Layer and in a format which will be recognised by your action.

Hope this helps.
