Hi,

I have the following problem in Photoshop/imageReady CS2:

I have a bunch of images in different sizes, to which I want to add a caption.

For this purpose I have created a template file with a variable for the image, and a variable for the caption.

So far, so good.

The problem is: the template has a fixed size, so after batch processing my images, they all have that size. But I would like to retain the image size, so the images are basically the same after batch processing, but with the caption added.

I feel like there must be a way to set the IMAGE SIZE as a variable, but haven’t found a way to do so. There’s probably a solution using a script but I have no knowledge whatsoever of scripting.

Any help with this problem would be appreciated very much.

Julian.

don’t use a template, just create a text layer with the caption on the existing file. use the move tool options to position it where you want.

Thanks for the reply but I don’t really see how this solves my problem. After all I want to use variables to generate the captions automatically. The whole idea behind my approach is to save myself the trouble of opening dozens of images and create a text layer with a caption in each of them.

Maybe I misunderstand your advice, if so, please clarify.

Julian.

What Dave suggested, but incorporate it into an action so you can batch process the files. You could get the action to place the text cursor, (say)bottom left of the image, then stop to wait for your input. Or if you are using a script, to take the text from your database.

Thanks for your reply, Chris. This sounds much better than opening all the files, creating a text layer manually, and adding the caption.

I guess I’ll have to teach myself how to write scripts if I want to import the captions from a file?
