CS uses 50% of processor time, even in background

Photoshop CS is running on a Pentium IV machine with 2.66 GHz and 2 GB RAM on WinXP SP2 here. Even if I do absolutely nothing, have no images open and Photoshop minimized, it eats up 40-50% of my processor time. First I did not notice, but then the constant humming of my cooling fan made me search for the reason.

I have no explanation whatsoever as to why this could happen. I would appreciate your help, this is so annoying!

I just found out by asking a friend the same question. He knew the answer: The reason is background indexing for the file browser – sorry, don’t know how this is really called in the English version of PS. Anyway, open the file browser settings and uncheck background indexing. There you go, PS remains idle when it is supposed to. Processor usage decreases to zero.

Hopefully this topic will help others, at least.
