thanks in advance

Rename the layer to any other name.

You must remove the white if you want it transparent. Without seeing the image the general advice is, alt double click on the background layer in the layers palette. that will rename the layer to Layer0. Then remove the white – erase, magic wand, or oh, about a hundred other ways. But that’s the issue – you need to make that white transparent so that you can see a checkerboard pattern underneath it (indicating transparency).

Ok – I should mention here that there is one layer only in the layers palette – and that is the image itself..behind the image is the above mentioned checkerboard pattern – as i was aware that this area should be transparent..hmmm..doesnt make sense to me why the white area or bounding box is coming up around it when opened in illustrator??

Lyn, I saw the same thing happen; when I copied from Photoshop and pasted into Illustrator, it didn’t preserve the transparency; however, if you save that PSD file, and open it in Illustrator, it recognizes the transparency and you can copy and paste within Illustrator. I don’t use it very often, so there might be an easier way.

Thanks Glen,
Ive just been told by the guys in Illy forum that the psd file needs to be ‘placed’ into illy doc – works a treat!
YAY no more white box..
