You can upgrade with any version of Photoshop, including 5.5. You would get the upgrade to CS2, the current version.

When you instal the upgrade, it will look for a previous installed version and if it doesn’t find one it will ask you to insert the original CD.

I think I am correct, however, in stating that it won’t automatically recognize versions earlier than PS6. You can still upgrade, but you will have to phone Adobe with your serial number etc. If you didn’t register PS5 you’ll need to provide proof of purchase.

Best of luck with it.

I may be wrong, but I think it will recognize versionn 5. The cutoff, as I recall, was version 4.

I Would Suggest Upgrading To Photoshop CS2 But If You don’t Want the Current Version As Sometimes A Older Version Is Cheaper Or Maybe You’re Not Sure About How Good The Newest Is,Then I Would Purchase Photoshop 7.0 But Not Photoshop CS As Photoshop CS Is A Bit Buggy If You Have Windows XP – SP2 Installed, meaning if you run System Restore It Will Remove Part Of The Activation Data But This Problem Is Fixed In Photoshop CS2 Which I Have Been Using Since It Was Released And Am Very Pleased With This Version Compared To Version CS (8.0)

As others have noted, if you’re dealing with Adobe, you can only upgrade to the current version. Which isn’t a bad thing.

However, be sure to review the system requirements for whatever version you latch on to. If your computer is the same vintage as version 5.5, it’s likely to either be inadequate or barely adequate for a newer program…

Gee Brett. What have you got against full stops and paragraphs?

Then I Would Purchase Photoshop 7.0

The only version of Photoshop you can buy legally is the current version – CS2.

If you get offered a "second-hand" copy of any other version, insist on a "Transfer of License" form from Adobe, otherwise you will be lumbered with a pirated copy which may or may not work, will be unsupported, and will NOT be upgradable to future versions.

AVOID!

I’ve Never Encountered Anyone Who Capitalized (Dang Near) Every Word And I Hope I Never Do Again Because It’s Bloody Annoying And Difficult To Read Just Curious Brett Why Do You Do That Is It Something You Learned When You Were Young Or is It Some Sort Of Nervous Tic Or Is There Some Other Braqnch Of Computing That I Don’t Know About That Requires One To Capitalize Every Word Because There’s Some Sort Of Syntax Requirement That Causes Problems If You Start Words With Lower Case Letter Because If There Is It’s Something I’ve Never Heard About Before And I’d Be Curious To Know More About It So HowAbout It Could You Enlighten The Rest Of Us With Some Sort Of Insight About Why You Might Happen To Type That Way If It’s Just A Weird Habit I’ll Ignore It Along With Your Posts Because Like I Said Before I Find It Annoying And Difficult To Read The End

Eileen…If you decide you want to upgrade to the latest version of Photoshop make very sure that your hardware is robust enough to handle it.
