* .dds, as in "DirectDrawSurface (for 3D applications)?

Or did you mean (through either typos or lack of understanding) *.psd, the standard suffix for Photoshop-native files?

If it won’t let you save to that format, then you are in an image mode or depth that the format doesn’t support.

Also, that is a third party plugin….

I can do "new" and then save to .dds and sometimes it works and other times it does not. can you tell me more of how to set up for .dds file saving? thank you for your reply.

Again – it depends on the mode and depth of the image you’re working on.

No, I can’t tell you anything more because I don’t have the plugin — you need to talk to whomever made the plugin.
