"I work for an inkjet cartridge remanufacturing company. I asked my boss if he’s seen this problem before. He said it seems that – you have an electronic glitch.
He said it seems also that you’ve done everything… cleaning which was a priority. He said to check the cables that run the carriage of the printer, cartridges, etc. They might be loose, causing static and electronic failures. I understand your frustration! :("
Did you clean the guide rail? Did you flush the print head?
Did you delete all temporary files in the Windows Temp folders for all users?
What is the connection – parallel or USB?
Does it happen on any image?
Does it happen in draft mode?
Does it happen when different paper is selected (even though you use the same paper).
Does it happen when you use plain paper with your current paper selected (lying to it)?
That’s just a start, but it’s the only way you’ll nail it down.
Did you clean the guide rail? Did you flush the print head? Yes cleaned the guide rail few times actually, I used the wet tissue technique and moved the print head over it like in one of your links.
I also changed the Ink cart and it still did it.
Did you delete all temporary files in the Windows Temp folders for all users?
YES
What is the connection – parallel or USB?
USB. I have tried different cabels, and different USB ports.
Does it happen on any image?
Yes on most images, printed from different sofware, different paper,
Does it happen in draft mode? I have made 4 prints in draft mode and it did not happen. Although I have also had 3-4 good prints randomly in high quality mode.
Does it happen when different paper is selected (even though you use the same paper).
Yes it still happens.
Does it happen when you use plain paper with your current paper selected (lying to it)?
Yes
On fixoyourprinter.com they think that it’s electronic failure!
I am running very close to a deadline so I might have to go out and buy a new printer today. Then if I manage to fix this old one then I will sell it off. On the new printer I will get 3 year extended gurantee 🙁 I wish I had known that I had that option when I got this moody printer!
I am lookingat the new Epson R1800 printer. Any comments?

Based on what you’ve said, that’s the only thing left, I fear. Sorry dude.

As I said I did but that got me thinking about why on earth did I not try printing from my laptop? One final twist or just coincidence…5 A3 printouts so far from the laptop and all perfect. If it keeps printing good from the laptop then what would that mean?
It has printed good sometimes from the desktop so I don’t want to get too excited yet but it looks promising.
If I can get this project out of the door then I can buy more time rather than purchasing a printer under pressure.
If it prints perfectly from the laptop, that more or less eliminates the printer itself as a source of the defect.
Why don’t you transfer the project to the laptop, get it out of the way and then look at what is wrong with the driver/spooler on the desktop machine?
R1800. I purchased one recently. I like it very much. Prints look great. Compared to my 1270, it is very fast. No problems so far. It does go thru inks rather quickly, which does not make me happy. At the same time, I consider the high quality prints, faster printing and longevity of photos to be worth the trade-off. I hope this printer will continue to be reliable.
Peace,
Q
Yeah that is what I am doing printing from the laptop. Ok looks like my printer is perfectly all right as it’s printing perfect from the laptop 🙂 8 A3 prints and all good from the laptop.
Any suggestions on where I should start to trouble shoot the desktop PC once this project goes out? I have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers numerous times.
Nick,
Glad that you had a laptop to test and finish the project. Also glad that you don’t have to trash your printer. But…
the print monitor etc stopped working and showing status
That would have been helpful to know. All along, I had assumed that your software was performing as expected.
Well, lesson learned about assuming <smile>
Peace,
Tony
YrbkMgr I had mentioned it in one of the posts (I think). Plus that was couple of months ago. I had uninstalled and re-installed the drivers and everything was showing up normal during this ellipse drama 🙂
Thanks for your help btw 🙂
I still have to find why it does this from the desktop.
OK so I can print from my desktop as well. There is a driver deleter utility available from the Kyocera Mita web site. I used that and all the corrupt crap is gone.
Hugging my Epson 1290s and saying sorry to it for doubting it 🙂
Outstanding Nick. And thank you for posting the follow up.
But why would you have elected to use a Kyocera utility? I know that you’re saying it worked, but what led you to try it – because I see nothing there (at your link) that would make me go, "oh, this’d be good to have".
