It doesn’t matter if I place the 2 pieces of art from one file or from two separate files via copy/paste to smart object. I’ve tried it both ways.

When the smart object is pasted, I don’t do any resizing at all, just paste exactly as it is from illustrator into Photoshop. Just today, I opened the Photoshop smart object in Illustrator, moved a logo position, saved the smart object, and back to Photoshop. Again, the file was scaled up in Photoshop after an edit that had nothing to do with scaling or resizing. I’m back to editing the original file and re-pasting as a smart-object instead.

It doesn’t seem like there would be any reason for the smart object to change scale at all in Photoshop when no scale changes are done in Illustrator. It just doesn’t make sense. If it looks like a bug, smells like a bug, walks like a bug… this is one of those features that doesn’t behave as expected! Am I missing a preference somewhere maybe?
