im_a…,

I’m just a couple steps ahead of your beginner status, so I offer the following information.

When you say you created a "shadow" of your text, what method did you use to create the shadow?

Basically, if I was going to do this I would:

1)Create text layer

2)Duplicate text layer through the layer palette (duplicate layer) and then through the "edit" menu I would choose transform>flip vertical. Then I would edit>free transform and adjust perspective.

3)Then you can change opacity of layer and other effects as desired.

4)When done, simply turn off the "eye" on your original text layer and you’re there.

The best advice will be received by you detailing your method and the "end result" you are after.

Post back and supply more info and ask more questions, I’m sure you’ll get the help you need.

As already said it depends on how you’ve created the shadow but if it’s created with Blending Options (by double clicking on the text layer and choosing ‘Drop Shadow’), then you can right click on the little ‘f’ next to the text layer and choose ‘Create Layer’. That will give you a new layer underneath the text layer with the drop shadow on it. Then you can just toss the text layer in the bin.

Just slide the "fill" slider at the top of the layers palette all the way to zero. This will keep the layer effect and make any pixels on the layer transparent.

But, hey guys, don’t you ever long for that 24 hour period when you can say, "hey, I knew that!"

The wheels just keep turning!
