Hi,
When I convert one of my saved paths using "make selection", it will only select the outer shape and will not select the shapes inside this "outline". I’m trying to select a photo of a person and some of the hair has empty spaces (which I’ve outlined with a path). This worked before so I don’t know why it won’t do so now.

Any suggustions? Maybe there is a setting I’ve turned off…

Thanks,

When creating your paths, make sure to check the options bar and have Exclude Overlapping Areas depressed. For existing paths, use the Path Selection tool to select two or more paths, and with Exclude overlapping areas depressed, click the Combine button.

Where is the options bar? I can’t find the "exclude overlapping areas" button. I’ve clicked on the arrow near the upper right of the paths panel but I don’t see it.

Where is the options bar?

At the top. When you create a path or select one from the paths palette, it’ll change.

"Where is the options bar?"

It’s usually at the top of the screen, but only if you have Photoshop version 7 or newer.

You haven’t mentioned which version you’re working with, and I’m sure YrbkMgr just assumed v 7 or newer.

I’m using CS2. There is nothing that is selectable on the top bar. I’ve even reinstalled the program because I know that it would select all of the inside shapes before.

Tracy,

Go to the paths palette. Click on your path. Presumably, you have both paths, the inside and outside on the same work path. Once you click that, click on the Path Selection Tool. Your option bar will highlight.

If that doesn’t work for you, have your paths palette visible take a screenshot. Post it somewhere and tell us the link.
