Photoshop 7 slow in opening .jpg

I’ve got a nice one here to figure out.

I have a P4 3G HT, 512MBDDR400MHz, SATA HDD running WinXpPro. In a normal viewer, it takes a split second to open a 500kb JPG, taken with my digital camera.

Photoshop 7 needs over a minute, while the application seems to hang, no processor nor HDD activity.
Once the file is open, the performance is great, no issue whatsoever, but opening it is a nightmare…

any help is highly appreciated

Did you upgrade from 6? If so, look for adobe.aom on drive, delete it.
