In COREL’s Photopaint, I can make up my own tool bars. Can anything similar be done in Photoshop 7? If not, can it be done in Photoshop CS2?
I would like to clear the screen of all those palettes and replace them with tiny icons until I need one without having to go to the WINDOWS menu.

No, there are no button bars in Phototoshop.

You can hide the palettes with the TAB key.

Who is Pritch and what does he have to do with button bars?

Daryl Pritchard – a forum regular who is a champion of the cause to bring button bars back to Photoshop. They could be added to versions up to CS1. In CS2 it is not possible.

I have version 7. If I can add button bars, how would I go about it? The lack of button bars in PS must have been a marketing decision to make PS look quaintly antique. The things that one clicks on, are essentially Windows "short cuts" to blocks of program code. Adobe can easily create short cuts to these very same short cuts and allowed the user to position them as one does on the Windows desk top.
Oh well. Maybe I will stick with Photo Paint. It does not do as much as PS, but at least I get a lot more real estate for the image itself.

It’s about time Adobe modifies the action palette.

Have you thought about running dual monitors? That way you get a whole screen of cutomization.
