ChangeText in Photoshop?

I’m very new to Adbobe photoshop, and am having trouble with changing text. How can I see the changes that I am making/adding to text while I am making them? So far I know that I must select the text layer i want to change from the layers pallette and hit the T key and then enter my own text. after that I’m pretty lost.

Look in the layers palette. Is there a text layer there? If not, then the text in the image is "embedded" into the image can cannot be edited. It can be removed (usually) with image editing techniques, but not changed as proper text.

If there is a text layer present, double clicking the text layer icon in the palette will allow you to edit that text.
