Hi,

I just switched from Macromedia Fireworks to Adobe Photoshop because I heard it was so much better. Now, in Fireworks I used the slice-tool a lot, because I do a lot of webdesigning. The best thing about these slices was that I could choose to export only the slices, all at one click. The name and properties (gif / jpg – transparency – … ) were all set from before. Big advantage was e.g. that you can easily change the background, export all your slices and all your graphic work was changed to the new background.
Now I see that photoshop also has slices but I can’t seem to find out how to use them the same way I did in Fireworks. Anyone an idea?

TIA

Yes. Use Fireworks. Seriously. Image Ready, the so-called web app bundled with Photoshop is a complete dog. I always make images in PS and then open them again in Fireworks for anything to do with web work.

Ok, I was afraid so that PS would let me down on this… Now, I did as you told, and opened up a .psd in Fireworks, but it’s completely f*cked up. The stroke of some layers is gone, opacity is back to a 100%, … So I’m afraid Fireworks can’t realy handle PS-files. I could save in PS as a jpg and then import it in Fireworks and do my whole slicing stuff, but that seems kinda silly, couse every time I change the PS file, I have to save it and import again in FW, … Any better idea?

PS: a signature is made like this, you take a new rule, add two "-"s and space, and then it will be automaticly cut off by your newsreader when you hit reply. In your case, you forgot the space (wich is kinda hard to see 😉

Don’t use .psd. If you’re trying to do something for the web then use ..jpg or .gif. Or, as another solution save as .png in PS, then open up in Fireworks and do the web work. All work fine for me. Even .tif will work better than .psd. Mind you it does depend on the versions you are using. I’m told (and I have it but haven’t tried it yet) that MX does a much job of it than FW4.

well, I was using FW 😉 but now indeed I save as a jpg and then cut it up using my slices method. Works perfect… here’s what I’ve done so far: http://www.weedpecker.cjb.net/VBK/

(nevermind the weird spelling, it’s Dutch)
