I am new to Photoshop and need some help. I am trying to put a pic of a guitar on my son’s photo. I have opened the guitar and the photo pic from my file. Both are coming up as background layers as seperate operations. How can I get the photo to be the background layer and the guitar as a layer on the picture.
Also how can I change the size of the guitar to make it smaller?

The last question is how can I change the color of a background of a photo? Does this need to be done in layers (if this is the only change wanted) or is there another way?

Thank you.

T,

With both images open, just drag the guitar bg layer into the "face" image. The guitar can be resized by Edit>Transform>Scale. Not enough info re the background question, what is it like now? It would probably need some form of selection prior to changing.

Dear Mike,
Thank you so much for the info on layers. I did it and it came out well. As for the changing the color background on a picture, what was meant is that if I had taken a picture of my son sitting in the grass (on the original photo) and I wanted a solid black background to replace the grass, how would I go about this? Thanks again.

Using your method of choice, make a selection around your son, invert the selection (Select>Inverse) and fill with black.

Some of the ways you could select your son:
• Use the pen tool to draw a path, then turn that path into a selection. • Use the magic wand tool.
• Use the lasso tool.
• Use the quick mask, and then a brush to "paint" a selection of your son (my preference).

I’d consult your Photoshop manual to see how each of these tools works and choose the best solution for you. There are many different ways and approaches to achieve your end goal. The methods I’ve listed above are just a few, albeit some of the more common methods.
